The same Taverns
Your communities, on your desktop
Taverns is a community platform for gaming and hobby groups. A Tavern is your community, halls are the text and voice rooms inside it, and roles, forums, events, and moderation sit on top of ordinary chat. The Windows app is that same product on your desktop.
There is nothing new to set up. Sign in with the account you already use in the browser and every Tavern, hall, direct message, and friend is where you left it.

The same communities, halls, categories, and roles you use on the web, in a window of their own.
Text, voice, and calls
Read and post in text halls, join voice halls, and take one-to-one or group DM calls.
Direct messages and friends
DMs, group DMs, message requests, and your friends list travel with the account.
Windows notifications
Mentions and direct messages appear as Windows notifications, following the per-Tavern and per-hall preferences on your account.
Updates itself
New versions download in the background. When one is ready, an Update button appears; select it to restart into the new version.
Emoji, stickers, and GIFs
Custom emoji, stickers, reactions, and the GIF picker work the way they do on the web.
Three steps
Download, install, sign in
Download the installer
Select Download for Windows to save Taverns-Setup.exe. It is free.
Run it
Open the file. It installs Taverns for your Windows account and opens the app when it finishes. The installer is signed by MEKASMITH K.K. Windows takes a little while to get to know each new release, so at first it may show "Windows protected your PC". If it does, select More info, check that the publisher reads MEKASMITH K.K., then select Run anyway.
Sign in
Use the account you already have, or create one. Your Taverns, halls, DMs, friends, and notification preferences are attached to the account, not the computer.

Frequently asked questions
Is Taverns for Windows free?
Yes. Downloading Taverns for Windows, creating an account, making a Tavern, and joining a community are all free. Optional extras are bought with Prisma, the in-app currency, and are never required to chat or use voice.
Which versions of Windows does Taverns run on?
Taverns runs on 64-bit Windows 10 and Windows 11. The installer sets it up for your Windows account, so you do not need an administrator password.
Is the Taverns for Windows installer signed?
Yes. Taverns-Setup.exe is signed by MEKASMITH K.K., the registered name of MEKASMITH Co., Ltd., the company that makes Taverns. That is the publisher Windows shows for the installer and, once Taverns is installed, in your list of installed apps. Only download the installer from tav.gg.
Why does Windows say "Windows protected your PC"?
That is Microsoft Defender SmartScreen. It shows this message for apps it has not seen many times yet, including new releases from signed publishers, and it learns to recognize an app as more people download and install it. Taverns is signed, so select More info and you will see MEKASMITH K.K. as the publisher. If it reads MEKASMITH K.K., select Run anyway to continue. If it names anyone else, do not run the file, and download the installer again from tav.gg.
How does Taverns for Windows stay up to date?
Taverns checks for new versions and downloads them in the background. When an update is ready, an Update button appears in the app; select it to restart into the new version.
Is there a Taverns app for Mac or Linux?
Not yet. Taverns for Mac and Linux is coming soon. Until then, Taverns runs in any modern browser at tav.gg, and the free phone apps are on the App Store and Google Play.
Do I need a separate account for the desktop app?
No. Taverns uses one account across the Windows app, the iOS and Android apps, and the web app at tav.gg. Sign in with the account you already have and your Taverns, halls, DMs, and friends are already there.
