What people ask before they move.
The big questions about moving a Discord server, answered straight.
Can I export my Discord chat history?
Not for the server. Discord’s data package only has the messages you sent yourself, and tools that scrape other people’s messages with a user account break Discord’s Terms. Keep your old server as a read-only archive instead.
Can I transfer members to another server?
No tool can move members, on any app. Share one invite link and let people join in their own time.
Can I copy my roles, permissions and emoji?
Yes. The Taverns migration tool copies roles, permissions, emoji and supported stickers. Discord’s own Server Templates copy channels, roles and permissions, but only into another Discord server, and they leave out emoji.
How do I make my old server read-only?
In your old server’s settings, turn off Send Messages for @everyone (and in any channel that overrides it). People can still read everything, they just can’t post.
Do my boosts come with me?
No, boosts belong to Discord. You won’t need them: every tavern gets room for 700 emoji and 1,000 stickers, plus 2 GB uploads, for free.
Can we keep both?

How do I move my Discord server to Taverns?
Add the free migration tool to your server, run /migrate, open the private link it gives you and confirm the preview. Your channels, categories, roles, permissions, emoji and supported stickers are copied into a new tavern, then you invite your members with a link.
Does moving copy my messages and members?
No. Messages, message history, members and member-specific permission overrides are not copied, and neither are bots, webhooks, scheduled events or AutoMod rules. Keep your Discord server as a read-only archive for the history.
Does the migration change my Discord server?
No. The migration tool treats your Discord server as read-only. It doesn’t post, edit or delete anything.
How long does the import link last?
The private link from /migrate works for one hour. Keep it to yourself: anyone signed in to Taverns who has it can use it.
Should I delete my Discord server after moving?
You don’t have to. Many groups keep it read-only as an archive, with one channel pointing to their new tavern.
