Taverns Trust and Safety

Child Safety Standards

Taverns has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation. This page sets out the standards we hold every part of the service to, how anyone can report a child safety concern, and how to reach us. It applies to profiles, messages, direct messages, posts, Taverns communities, Wonders, voice and video features, uploads, and every other part of the service.

What is prohibited

Child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE) is prohibited without exception. Nobody may create, share, request, promote, facilitate, or attempt any of the following:

  • child sexual abuse material (CSAM), in any medium, real or generated;
  • sexualization of a minor, including in text, art, avatars, or usernames;
  • grooming, sextortion, or any attempt to solicit sexual contact or imagery from a minor;
  • trafficking a minor, or advertising, seeking, or arranging such contact;
  • linking to, or directing anyone toward, material or services of this kind off the platform.

Accounts that engage in this conduct are removed. This standard is also stated in the Community Guidelines, and it binds Tavern owners and Wonder creators for the spaces they run.

Minimum age

You must be at least 13 years old to use Taverns, and at least the minimum age required by the law that applies to you to use the service without parental consent. This is set out in the Terms of Service. Accounts we identify as belonging to someone under the minimum age are removed.

Report a child safety concern in the app

Every Taverns client, on desktop, web, and mobile, has reporting built in. You do not need an account relationship with the person to report them, and you do not need to be the person affected:

  • open the message, profile, Tavern, or Wonder you are concerned about;
  • choose Report;
  • pick Child safety as the reason and add anything that helps us locate the case.

You can also email report@tav.gg. Include links, IDs, dates, and a short description. Please do not attach or resend illegal material.

How we handle these reports

Child safety reports go straight into a priority queue for urgent specialist review, ahead of the general moderation queue. Taverns aims to review reports within 24 hours. Where a report is substantiated, the violating content is removed and the account is actioned, which includes permanent removal for CSAE.

Reporting is deliberately low friction because it is our primary detection route. Blocking a person takes effect immediately, and submitting a report does not automatically reveal to the reported person who submitted it.

Reporting to authorities

Where we become aware of apparent child sexual abuse material, we act on it and comply with the reporting obligations that apply to us, including reporting to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) where the law requires it, and preserving the related records as required.

Anyone can also report directly to the NCMEC CyberTipline. If a child is in immediate danger, contact local emergency services first. Taverns is not an emergency service.
